My first semester project was focused on site research and analysis with the aim of synthesising a form of architecture that responds to the environment. I have chosen a site located in the industrial side of Gravesend by the River Thames. This site is unique and challenging due to its maritime history, the changing nature of the tidal river and the deterioration of the landscape due to human manipulation and lack of investment. It is currently under threat of being redeveloped into mass housing that consists of unaffordable properties that can drive gentrification in this part of the Thames.
Repurposing building materials from the industrial estate buildings that will eventually be demolished as a form of creative reuse whilst capturing elements of Gravesend's vernacular architecture.
The power of the wind has always been a part of Gravesend's maritime landscape hence I made an experimental device that reacts to the forces of the wind and later translated it into an architectural piece.
